Police Department News
The Jackson Police Department is going to start a monthly blog to let the citizens of Jackson know who we are, what we do and what is going on in our town.
The Jackson Police Department consists of two full-time officers and two part-time officers. We cover Jackson 24 hrs. a day seven days a week whether on duty or on call. As best I can determine, the Jackson Police Department was established between 1971 and 1973. Before this, Jackson had a Constable. The police department used to be located in the Fire Dept. and then in a half trailer which sat behind the present Town Office Building. We are now located in the basement of the Town Office Bldg.. Our front door is located on the side that faces the Fire Dept.
The police department recently hired Doug Jette as our second part-time officer. Doug is currently attending the N.H. Part-Time Police Academy. Doug is a N.H. native having grown up in Lebanon. After graduating high school, Doug joined the Army. After the Army, Doug had a successful landscaping business for years. Doug now works as a cook in Conway. Doug resides in Bartlett with his wife and three children.
Our other part-time officer is Sol Rosman. Sol has been with us for four years. He is a Paramedic and has worked for years with the N. Conway Ambulance. Sol recently was hired full-time by the Conway Fire Dept. and is currently in the N.H. Fire Academy. Sol resides in N. Conway with his wife.
The police department recently applied for a grant for video cameras for our police cars. I don’t know if we’ll get it since this is a highly sought after grant. It will pay for 50% of the cost of the cameras. We should know in about two weeks. Stats show that when there is videoed evidence there is a reduction of about 96% of false accusations against police officers. The police department I worked for prior to coming to Jackson had video cameras in the cruisers. When I would make a drunk driving arrest the first thing a defense attorney would do was ask to see the video tape of the arrest. Every time, without acception, after viewing the tape, the defense attorneys want to make a plea deal rather than go to court. They did this because they know that when the Judge sees the video evidence, their client will be
found guilty and receive a stiffer penalty.
Reminder, the moose are starting to come out of the interiors of the forest. The salt that was spread over the roads during the winter has melted and drained to the sides of the roads. The moose are drawn to the salt. As a result, the moose hang out on the shoulders and sometimes on the road. We have responded to three moose Vs. vehicle accidents so far.
