Jackson Women’s Sewing Club Annual Luncheon, June 4, 2008, 12:00 PM
The Jackson Women’s Sewing Club is pleased to announce its annual luncheon, Wednesday, June 4, 2008 at noon at the Red Fox Bar and Grille in Jackson.
For over 90 years, club members have gathered regularly to share their talents and to continue charitable donations and services to the community. And for many years the club has hosted an annual luncheon for people throughout the Mount Washington Valley.
This year’s guest speaker is Cheryl Hurst of Essence of Art Studio on Seavey Street in North Conway. Cheryl and a small group of individuals started Essence of Art in 1992 as a working art studio and interactive retail store providing support services to artists and craftspeople with developmental disabilities.
Cheryl brings her business and artistic skills to the shop, creating lovely, stylish clothes that are one of a kind. Studio artists also make hand-woven products for the home, such as table runners, placemats and napkins and many gift items. Cheryl will be demonstrating weaving techniques on a four harness floor loom, and luncheon guests are welcome to try their hand at weaving.
There will also be a display of the shop’s unique line of clothing including capes, shawls, scarves, tunics, tops and tote bags. And Cheryl will discuss and show the shop’s whimsical bird houses, bowls, buttons, figures and wall plaques, all made of clay.
The menu includes a choice of three delicious entrees- Woodfired Barbeque Chicken Salad, Haddock Fontina or Jumbo Spinach Ravioli- a beverage, and chocolate mousse cake for $18.00 per person including taxes and tip. There will be a cash bar beginning at noon for guests who want to come early to enjoy the display and try the art of weaving. Lunch will be served beginning at 12:30 PM.
Throughout the years, the Jackson Women’s Sewing Club has held many events and fundraisers with the Annual Silver Tea in December, a well-loved tradition. At the luncheon, the club will raffle off $25 gift certificates from Valley Original Restaurants - Merlinos, Oxford House, UP Country Family Restaurant, Shannon Door – as well as two $25 gift certificates from Reed and Barton. The club would like to thank these local businesses for their generous support.
Tickets will also be available for a lovely hand-made quilt, with a modern twist, that will be raffled off in December at the Silver Tea. Proceeds will go toward the club’s community programs such as higher education scholarships for Kennett High School students, dinners prepared for Merriman House residents, and sponsorship of various charitable organizations.
Deadline for luncheon reservations is May 28th. For more information, contact Helene Matesky at 383 - 9271 or Bobbi Meserve at 383 - 9755 as the restaurant can not take reservations. Or you can print out a copy of the invitation at www.jacksonvillage.net under Public Notices and follow the mailing directions to reserve your place at this unique event.
