The Jackson Fire Department (as well as the Bartlett-Jackson Ambulance and the Jackson Police Dept) are once again asking Jackson homeowners and tenants alike to please affix their house numbers so that they are readily visible from the street. If you don't know your house number, please contact the town office to find out what it is.
This ordinance, adopted by the Town of Jackson Board of Selectmen on the 16th of June, 2003, states that numbers shall be at least 3.5" in height and be readily visible from the street during night-time as well as day-time. For primary buildings not readily visible from the street, the assigned street number shall be conspicuously displayed at the point of entry to the property, so that it is visible on a year round basis (ie: the end of your driveway and not under a snowbank).
According to this ordinance, any property owner who fails to comply with any provision of this ordinance within six months of the mailing date (back in 2003) shall be guilty of a violation not to exceed $250.00. The complete ordinance may be viewed at the town office building.
Please note everyone, this is for your safety! The delay that is caused while these agencies search for your house during an emergency really can mean life or death. Please pass this message on to your neighbors who may not live in town on a full-time basis.
