In March 2008, the town approved a bond issue for $650,000 to be used to renovate and add to the school building. The total cost of the project is $936,000. In addition to the bond, the school board had previously set aside money for the renovation, and over the course of the bond, there will be state aid that offsets the costs. The winning bid was submitted by L.A. Drew for a sum not to exceed $799,629.
Work is expected to begin July 14 as the Trickey Barn is being removed. The renovation and addition will add 1,610 square feet of new space and convert school operations to one floor. The second floor will be mothballed. Construction is expected to be complete by the end of October.
THE SCHOOL GROUNDS ARE OFF LIMITS DURING THE CONSTRUCITON.
The renovation and addition will correct deficiencies noted by the NH Department of Education, add a conference room and small library space as well as a separate nurse's office and kitchen.
The school children will also use the Whitney Center as a multipurpose room for art, music and indoor recreation.
The floor plan and elevations from Banwell Architects showing the existing building and the addition are available by clicking here for the floor plan and clicking here for the elevations. The North elevation shows the school as it would look if you were standing at the building housing the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce and looking at the school. The East elevation shows
essentially the rear of the school building.
The floor plan is also reproduced below but at a lower quality.
