When You Are Home Alone
Do not open the door for anyone you do not know.
Do not talk to strangers on the phone.
Never tell the person on the phone that your parents are not home and that you are alone. Tell the person that your parent, or babysitter is not able to come to the phone at this moment.
Practice saying "I'm sorry, my Mom [or Dad or your babysitter's name] is not able to come to the phone right now. If you leave your name and phone number, my Dad [Mom] will return your call when able"
If you call 911 for help, do not hang up the phone. Leave the line open and the receiver just hanging down or on the counter. The Police Department can still hear you and what is going on in your place.
If there is someone hanging around near your home, you can call for help by dialing 911. Tell the person who answers [called a dispatcher] what the hanging around person is doing. Give a description if you can. Help will be sent to you. Do not leave the house unless the dispatcher tells you to leave.
Never let anyone in your home to use your phone, bathroom or anything else. If there is an emergency outside your house, call 911 and tell the Police what is going one. The Police will send help.
