March 15, 2011 - Minutes of Jackson Public Library Trustees (approved)
PRESENT: Edith Houlihan, Treasurer; Lisa White; Sam Harding, Alternate; Kathy Kopitsky, Alternate; Susan Dunker-Bendigo, Director; Denise Sachse, Visitor; Joyce Allan, Secretary.
ABSENT: Allen Brooks; Sarah Duffy
Sam, who chaired the meeting in Allens absence, introduced Denise Sachse. Denise is interested in being an alternate member to the board.
Minutes were read and approved.
TREASURERS REPORT: Edith announced receipt of $3500.00 from the Jackson Barn Trust. This fund was established several years ago to maintain the Trickey barn in its former location. She put it in a separate account, and we will continue to discuss how to use this money.
DIRECTORS REPORT: On Thursday 3/17, Susan will conduct a seminar on the Nook reader. On Monday, 3/28, all librarians will attend a tech training session in Madison.
Susan will have the statistics out soon for the first two months of 2011.
Steve Piotrow is working on an appropriate location for the weather station.
Joanne Corcoran will be helping Susan with coordinating the volunteers.
The librarians agree that Juvenile Biographies should be in the Childrens room. A moveable bookcase with two sides is needed to accomplish this.
Developing a website for the Library is an ongoing discussion. Since Website Development will be a topic at the NH Library Trustees Conference in May , Edith suggests we wait until after that meeting to continue.
FRIENDS REPORT: Stan Weiss is chairman of the Program Committee. He, along with Sam and Kim have come up with many suggestions for future programs.
Jon Goodwin will have his proposal for the new sign ready for the next meeting.
We discussed training an additional staff person who could be on call for emergencies and to fill in for vacationing staff.
To save time at meetings, Edith and Joyce, and Susan will email their reports to Trustees in advance. Please watch for them, and read prior to the meeting.
GRAND OPENING OF THE LIBRARY: Sam and Denise volunteered to be point people for this celebration. Saturday of Memorial Day weekend is the first choice for the event with June 4th as a backup date. Susan will ask Michael York of the State Library to be a speaker. Sam will ask Curtis Milton to do a presentation. A storyteller may be engaged as amusement for the children. Invitations and food are other topics that will require planning.
The next meeting will be on April 7, at 4:00 at the Whitney Center.
Respectfully submitted,
Joyce Allan, Secretary
