The Town of Jackson, NH
Employment and Income in Jackson
The economy of Jackson, and that of most of Carroll County, is strongly influenced by its location in the Mount Washington Valley.  The 1999 Profile of New Hampshire’s Counties, Cities, Towns, and Unincorporated Places states that “about a quarter of the county is within the White Mountain National Forest....  The two largest towns in the county, Conway and Wolfeboro, stand out as popular destinations for tourists and outdoor enthusiasts.  The former caters to year-round visitors....”  Many of those tourists and outdoor enthusiasts include Jackson in their visits, and many businesses in Jackson thrive partially because of the tourist trade.

Jackson and many other North Country towns are poised to participate in the world of telecommuting, with enhanced communications mechanisms in place, and educational offerings increasingly emphasizing computer technology.  However, the impact of tourism remains primary, affecting construction, lodging, restaurants, shopping, and recreational businesses.  The section on Recreation offers additional background information
