The Town of Jackson, NH
Administrative Services and Facilities
Jackson is governed by a three-member board of selectmen, each elected for three-year terms at the annual town meeting. There are currently eight full-time employees and one part-time employee to provide municipal services in the highway department, police, transfer site and town office. The building inspector is compensated on a contract fee basis.

Town buildings include the Jackson Grammar School, the Jackson Public Library, the town hall, the town office building, Gray’s Inn garage, and the town highway garage, which also houses the fire department.

The town hall, built in 1897 and located in the village center, is a two-story structure with a meeting room and stage on the first floor. The second floor was previously occupied by the town clerk, whose office is now in the town office building. The first floor area is used for meetings, grammar school volleyball and basketball games, lectures, plays, contra dances and local civic group functions.

The town office building located on the Gray’s Inn property near the covered bridge, was completed in 2000. The town purchased the 34-acre parcel in 1984 and will complete payment of the bond in 2004. The building provides office space for the town clerk/tax collector, the board of selectmen and the administrative assistant. Property files and tax maps as well as planning board, conservation commission and zoning board of adjustment documents and reference materials are available for public inspection. A meeting room that can accommodate 60 to 75 people is used by the board of selectmen, the planning board, the zoning board of adjustment and other municipal boards and committees. The police department is located on the lower level with its own entrance and consists of an entrance hall and two offices. The remaining space is used for storage.

Gray’s Inn garage, which originally served the inn, is owned by the town and is used for storing highway vehicles and equipment. The garage also houses the office of the Jackson Water Precinct.
